Choosing the right bay replacement windows
We’ve spoken to hundreds of homeowners across Kent over the years, and a large percentage of those who have bay windows installed view them as their favourite part of the home, perhaps more so than any other glazing style.
Bay windows protrude outwards from your wall, usually on the ground floor in an angular shape (most commonly consisting of three to five panels). They’re often confused with bow windows, which curve round as opposed to being angular.
There are a few reasons why bay windows are often seen as the centrepiece of a property. By poking outwards, they add a cosy extra space to your home, commonly used as a place to read, relax or store belongings. Because they are rounded as opposed to single-fronting, they attract natural light from all angles, giving you a brighter space.
At Amazing Glazing, we’ve spent over 15 years fitting beautiful, high-performance windows in homes throughout Kent. Bay windows remain one of the most rewarding projects we work on, and we use uPVC materials to ensure elite thermal performance and longevity.

What is a bay window?
A bay window projects outwards from the main wall of a home, forming a small recess inside. It’s usually made up of a central window flanked by two angled side windows, creating that classic three-panel shape you’ll spot on countless homes across Kent.
Bay windows became popular during the Victorian and Edwardian eras and still grace many period properties today. The windows themselves are most commonly made up of casement or flush sash windows.
Defining characteristics:
- Projects outwards from the main wall
- Made up of three or more flat panels set at angles
- Usually features a larger central window with smaller side windows
- Creates a recessed space inside the room
- Commonly found on Victorian, Edwardian and traditional British homes

What are the benefits of bay windows?
As well as looking great, there are several practical benefits to bay windows that you’ll be able to enjoy all year round.
Added living space
The recess created by a bay window gives you additional space inside the room, the perfect place for a window seat or reading chair. In smaller rooms especially, that extra footprint completely changes how the space feels.
Plenty of natural light
Because bay windows wrap around three sides, they pull in light from multiple angles, brightening living rooms and making the whole space feel bigger.
Increased home value
A well-fitted bay window adds real value to your home. Buyers love the character and sense of space they bring.
Improved kerb appeal
Bay windows give the exterior of your home real personality, breaking up flat brickwork and making a property look more inviting from the street.

Why is uPVC such a great frame material?
uPVC (unplasticised polyvinyl chloride) is a sturdy, weather-resistant synthetic material and the UK’s most popular window and door frame material.
It’s often associated with a plain white finish, which needn’t be the case thanks to the rise of woodgrain effects that convincingly replicate the look of timber.
The benefits of uPVC
- Affordability: uPVC can be produced at scale, making it cost-effective without compromising quality.
- Low maintenance: No sanding or repainting. A quick wipe down is all it takes.
- Thermal performance: Naturally insulating, helping reduce heat loss and improve energy efficiency (how well your home retains warmth).
- Strength and security: Multi-chambered profiles keep your home safe and secure.
- Customisation: While white uPVC is familiar, it’s far from your only option. Our frames come in a wide range of colours, including woodgrain effects that replicate traditional timber windows without the maintenance.
What window styles are available with bay replacement windows?
The two most popular styles we fit for our bay windows are casement and flush sash windows.
Casement windows
Hinged on the side or top, casement windows are the UK’s most popular window style, renowned for simplicity and easy operation. They’re brilliant for ventilation and offer wide, unimpeded views. They suit any home, from new-builds to traditional cottages.

Flush sash windows
Flush sash windows sit perfectly flat within the frame, giving a clean finish that mimics traditional timber. You’ll no doubt find the appearance satisfying, and they open in the same simple way as casements, with a crank handle.
